How to guarantee optimal quality in streaming
and downloading?
The optimal musical experience is guaranteed by a group of players, each responsible for a part. Qobuz fights to ensure that the requirements are the same throughout the music journey on all links in the chain.
- MP3 quality (320 kbps): MP3 is a lossy audio compression format. It is a destructive format that significantly alters sound quality. The bit rate of 320 kbps corresponds to the number of Bits per second, here 320,000. In particular, MP3 allows a file size significantly smaller than that of a CD file, hence its massive use in streaming. The original audio is sampled but with fewer samples and, therefore, a lower precision.
- CD quality (16-Bit / 44.1 kHz): This corresponds to a sound quality similar to that of a Compact Disc that was listened to in a CD player. In digital, CD quality meets specifications requiring the same format as the original file, i.e. 16-bit / 44.1 kHz. On Qobuz, CD-quality files are offered in FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec), a lossless compression format that reduces the size of files without altering their original quality.
- Hi-Res Audio Quality (24-Bit / 192 kHz): The Hi-Res Audio standard is dedicated to audio files delivering sound of a higher quality than that of CD. These files are encoded with a resolution of 24-bit (compared to 16-bit for CD quality). We also speak of studio quality since the 24-bit resolution is used in recording studios. The gain in listening richness and sensations is significant compared to MP3 files or even CD quality.

A unique offer: Qobuz is the only music platform that offers streaming and downloading in Hi-Res (FLAC 24-bit / up to 192 kHz).
