How to guarantee optimal quality in streaming
and downloading?

The optimal musical experience is guaranteed by a group of players, each responsible for a part. Qobuz fights to ensure that the requirements are the same throughout the music journey on all links in the chain.

  • MP3 quality (320 kbps): MP3 is a lossy audio compression format. It is a destructive format that significantly alters sound quality. The bit rate of 320 kbps corresponds to the number of Bits per second, here 320,000. In particular, MP3 allows a file size significantly smaller than that of a CD file, hence its massive use in streaming. The original audio is sampled but with fewer samples and, therefore, a lower precision.
  • CD quality (16-Bit / 44.1 kHz): This corresponds to a sound quality similar to that of a Compact Disc that was listened to in a CD player. In digital, CD quality meets specifications requiring the same format as the original file, i.e. 16-bit / 44.1 kHz. On Qobuz, CD-quality files are offered in FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec), a lossless compression format that reduces the size of files without altering their original quality.
  • Hi-Res Audio Quality (24-Bit / 192 kHz): The Hi-Res Audio standard is dedicated to audio files delivering sound of a higher quality than that of CD. These files are encoded with a resolution of 24-bit (compared to 16-bit for CD quality). We also speak of studio quality since the 24-bit resolution is used in recording studios. The gain in listening richness and sensations is significant compared to MP3 files or even CD quality.

The thin gray wave in the image corresponds to the acoustic wave.

A unique offer: Qobuz is the only music platform that offers streaming and downloading in Hi-Res (FLAC 24-bit / up to 192 kHz).
